Biography

Maciek Czeredys – architect-urbanist, graduated at WAPW in 2003, his master thesis concerned the ability of incorporating the Warsaw Escarpment area into the system of public spaces (distinction of Minister of Infrastructure, Association of Vistula riverside's Cities and the Society of Polish Town Planners); from 2003 to 2007 worked in the Voivodship Office for the Protection of Monuments, initially as trainee, then department manager and finally as Deputy Conservator of Monuments; participant of several workshops, symposiums, conferences on issues regarding the protection of historical cities and sites (e.g. Fortress as a Corset: oppressing or inspiring?, s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, 2005); since 2007 works for a private urban planning office on the local urban development plans for municipalities in the Mazovia Region, urban conservation guidelines for the local land use planning, development studies, opinions and expertises; furthermore cooperates in organizing international architectural competitions (New Theatre in Warsaw, Museum of Polish History, Sinfonia Varsovia), as well as takes part in competitions, which he did not prepare - recently received a distinction (along with Aleksander Chylak and Artur Filip) in the competition for the renewal of Three Crosses Square in Warsaw; criticizes the present system of urban planning in Poland; advocates the strategies of the low-budget revitalization, the policy of radical enhancement of the existing urban resources instead of the policy of the expansion; ponders over the urban management strategies based on micro-analysis and micro-operations; for those reasons actively takes (or took) part in Warsaw's events like: Warsaw Under Construction (by Museum of Modern Art), the European Heritage Days, Integracja Association's initiatives, actions in Praga neighborhood, Archigadaniny and KNOT.
